BMW’s new six-cylinder tourer has claimed the honours in the prestigious award, following on from the success of the S 1000 RR in 2010

BMW’s K 1600 GT is the 2011 International Bike of the Year (IBOTY) winner, voted on by 25 motorcycle magazines for around the world.

The K 1600 GT, which recently formed part of our mega sports touring comparo, dominated the voting to finish well ahead of Ducati’s Diavel powercruiser and the Aprilia Tuono V4 APRC.

BMW’s up-spec K 160 GTL was fourth, followed by the Kawasaki ZX-10R and BMW S 1000 RR in equal fifth.

The S 1000 RR won the 2010 IBOTY prize.

BMW has now won IBOTY four times since the award’s inception in 1985, with Suzuki leading the way on seven.
