Yamaha has released a pair of sport bikes, R1 and R6, that are set to go on sale in 2012, designed specifically for track work.
Finished in black, the sinister pair are have been tailor-made for track work, with minimal finishings keeping weight low. Things like the indicators and plastic protection strips have been removed and though Yamaha says the bikes can be tweaked for road use, they are primarily designed for track work.
It's not clear whether Yamaha's engineering corps has tweaked the powertrain either, but there was no mention of it in the media statement.
The R1 appears to ditched its mirrors as well, which would improve its drag coefficient slightly, and all models are void of any decals.
Lightweight materials have been used, but our Japanese translator was fired last week so we cannot ascertain whether its carbon fibre of fibreglass...
Nevertheless, the new models look rather sporty and will be available to order for a 26 day period starting on December 9, 2011.
The kicker is that the bikes haven't been confirmed for Australia and will probably only be available in Japan and possibly Europe.
