As the pall of the GFC slowly begins to dissipate, we're beginning to see a recovery in many motorcycle markets, and as the recovery takes place motorcycle manufacturers are beginning to push more funds into the development of new models.
Case in point, the new 2013 Triumph Daytona 675.
Reports of an almost entirely new bike being tested on local roads around Triumph's HQ in Hinckley are increasing in frequency and suggest that the British brand is close to signing off on the mechanical changes to the bike.
Expected to take on a fresh new look, one that evolves the current 2011 Daytona 675R design (pictured), the new model is rumoured to sport several major changes, including new fairings, an updated front cowl and the removal of the under seat exhaust.
Remember when everyone was shifting to underseat exhausts in the last decade? The trend now appears to be shifting back towards side-mounted exhaust pipes.
Changes to the chassis are also expected with tweaks to the suspension setup and brakes on cards for the 2013 Triumph Daytona 675, designed to sharpen up its handling dynamics. The braking package could be closer to the 675R spec, with radially-mounted Brembo calipers for improved deceleration and feel.
Powertrain changes are also likely, with the new 2013 models rumoured to pump out more power than the 2011 675cc inline triple, which currently generates 126hp (92kW) at 12,600rpm and 72Nm of torque at 11,700rpm.
And Triumph will need an updated image and a boost in power to fend off a new Italian rival in the form of the MV Agusta F3, also powered by a 675cc triple, which is scheduled to go on sale in Europe at year's end.
We expect Triumph to begin revealing details of the 2013 Daytona 675 next year.
