Is Italian motorcycle maker Aprilia looking at taking on its countrymen with a big-bore adventure bike? This spy photo shows a new 1200cc version

As the adventure bike market segment hots up with a number of highly anticipated models coming to market, such as the Triumph Tiger 800, a spy photo of the new Aprilia Caponord 1200 has emerged.

Italian publication Motociclismo is reporting that this grainy image you see here is the next generation Aprilia Caponord 1200, a motorcycle that would certainly bolster the Italian company's line-up in the adventure-touring market segment.

Powered by the same 1200cc V-twin as the Dorsoduro 1200, the new model is likely to be previewed at EICMA in Milan later in the year, and can be expected to develop a similar amount of power as the Dorsoduro - somewhere in the vicinity of 130hp (97kW).

The new model is likely to take advantage of Aprilia's improving repertoire of electronic riding aids, such as ABS, switchable traction control and adjustable power modes that cater for different conditions.

Rivalling models such as the Ducati Multistrada and Moto Guzzi Stelvio, The Aprilia Caponord 1200 seen in the photo appears to make use of some of the Dorsoduro's chassis componentry, while adding a chunky front fairing, panniers and longer front forks.
