Taiwanese motorcycle maker Kymco has confirmed that its latest maxi scooter, the Downtown 300i, is about to touch down in Australia.
Arriving in May, the new scooter is priced from $7490 and is being touted as a "sport\tourer" with "plenty of top-of-the-range options and great versatility."
It will rival the $10,990 Honda Silver Wing 400 in terms of practicality, comfort, and even some of the features, albeit at a budget price point.
The Downtown 300i is kitted out with a number of premium features, including ABS, and will no doubt give the entrenched brands something to think about. Billed as city savvy but also happy on the highway, the new model provides Kymco with yet another model offering in its burgeoning scooter line-up.
The design keeps to the atypical maxi scoot style, with a twin headlight front end design, dual rear suspension plus two-tiered seating and plenty of underseat storage. Kymco reckons that two helmets will fit under the seat when not in use.
Other features of the Downtown 300i scooter include a digital instrument panel for rapid speed checks and a tall front screen to keep the wind off the rider at high speed.
Powered by a fuel-injected 300cc four-stroke engine, mated to a CVT "Twist & Go" automatic gearbox, the Downtown 300i "has the agility and precision for city street travel, as well as the power for speedy highway cruising" reads Kymco's press statement.
