Making their debut at Intermot 2010, the new Gixxers are coming, showing off a fresh new look

With motorcycles sales having slowed down during 2010, and this trend expected to continue into 2011 - due in large part to the GFC - many of the new bikes we were expecting to see this year have been pushed back to clear out the backlog of older stock.

The new 2011 Suzuki GSX-R600 and GSX-R750 have already been delayed and we expected to see the model pushed back futher.

But the news is in - we will see some new Gixxers in Ocotber 2010.

Though it's too early to say when the new models will be coming to Australia, Suzuki has released a couple of sketches of the 2011 supersport models, and has confirmed that they will be unveiled at Intermot in Cologne, Germany, on October 5.

It's hard to tell from the sketch what will be new, but expect a number of significant changes for the 2011 Suzuki GSX-R750 and GSX-R600.

If the drawings are to be believed, the ram-air intakes have doubled in number from two to four, vertically stacked either side of the headlight instead of underneath it.

Speaking of the headlight, it also looks to have taken inspiration from big-daddy Gixxer 1000.

A French motorcycle magazine has also published images of what it claims are the new 2011 GSX-R600, and it appears to match up with what the new sketches show us.

We'll have the full details on the new models from Intermot '10 in Germany, but some of the hardware changes are rumoured to be a slight power increases and possibly lighter kerb weights. With the GSX-R600 (and 750) having been almost mechanically unchanged for the past few years, the new models will be a welcome update the famous GSX-R family.

We'll have more information from October 5, so stay tuned.
