The 2010 Husqvarna SM 510R fuel-injected supermotard has finally landed in Australia.
Husqvarna is planning an all-out new model assault over the next few years, hoping to introduce something like 20 new models over the next 36 months.
But let's look at the SM 510R: Priced at $13,495, the new model is one sale now and is being touted as stronger, more durable and reliable -- and dare we say a little sexier?
Riding on black anodised Excel rims matched with new black plastic engine protectors, and showing off shiny silver Brembo calipers, the SM 510R supermotard will get more than casual glances.
Also new is the front mudguard and the body panels feature IPD, or in-mould plastic decoration graphics. According to Husky, these are "made of stronger, more flexible plastic" and design to last longer and withstand more punishment. IPD also appears on Husky's enduro and motocross range.
At the rear of the bike is an LED brake light cluster which is joined by a dual purpose number plate housing that can be used for both road and racing applications. Speaking of which, Husky reckons it's learned plenty from its world championship wins and has made a few tweaks on the SM 510 R as a result.
Revisions to the gearbox, such as new gear lever and selector mechanisms and gear change linkages, are claimed to deliver "improved gear change speed and accuracy".
The fuel-injected single-cylinder engine also gets a new timing gear chain tensioner to improve reliability and changes to the exhaust system (new aluminium silencers) deliver improved performance and a "very special sound" says the BMW-owned company.
