Could be held in 2010

Australia is presenting its case to host a round of the 2010 Indoor Trial World Championship.

According to minutes from the June Motorcycling Australia (MA) board meeting, the CEO of MA, David White, was due to discuss the issue on June 16 at the FIM in Geneva.

White was accompanied to the FIM meeting by Neil Price, who is behind the audacious bid for Australia to become the first country outside of Europe or South America to host a round of the indoor title.

The championship is traditionally held in the first few months of the year, on purpose-built courses inside stadiums like Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne or Acer Arena in Sydney.

The Bikesales Network is still unclear where Price proposes to hold the round, but the major population hubs of Sydney or Melbourne would be the logical favourites.

Indoor trial action is spectacular, set-up costs are far less than other forms of motorcycle racing, and an area the size of a tennis court is all that's required.

The championship is only four years old, and has been dominated by Spanish riders - Adam Raga in 2006 before Toni Bou's three-peat from 2007-2009 (see below).

The Bikesales Network will bring you more updates as they come to hand.
