The electric motorcycle explosion – a metaphor, not a physical condition – is really starting to ramp up, and the latest entrant in the two-wheeled world is the Mavizen TTX02.
The TTX02's predecessor, the Agni X01 prototype, won the first electric TT at this year's Isle of Man.
The flash-looking TTX02 is based around a KTM RC8 frame and has been designed for racing teams and features a number of different battery packs to suit conditions.
The new electric superbike could be the precursor to a era of green motorcycling, but Mavizen is spruiking the bike as a 'platform' for race teams to enter electric motorcycle racing championships, including the inaugural FIM-endorsed world series in 2010.
Powered by a pair of Agni electric motors and running the on Linux operating system, the TTX02 has a top speed of 130mph which will be more than 210km/h and has full "plug-and-play" capabilities.
Because the bike incorporates a software-based operating system in the form of Linux (Mavizen is also trialling Windows, but it may have crashed a lot…) and has USB ports, the idea is that race teams will be able to plug in their laptops and tweak the bike simply and easily to suit different conditions and tracks.
Mavizen claims the TTX02 is the first motorsport vehicle to ship with integrated IP connectivity, and could pave the way for similar systems in the future.
Priced at around ₤25,000 pounds or around A$45,000, Mavizen hopes to begin deliveries in March next year, and will build about 50 units to start with. The TTX02 bike comes with all you need to go racing, including a battery pack and, although it's not sold as a road legal bike, you can get integrate parts for road riding thanks to the wiring setup.
Tipping the scales at 110kg without batteries, the bike weighs around 160kg with the 6kWh 'circuit' battery pack, which will run for between 40-80km under racing conditions (read: flat chat).
There are other battery packs including an 11kWh Snaefell pack that is good for more than 200km of cruising. Mavizen is also rumoured to be working on a 'sprint' battery pack that sounds suited to qualifying. It's a 3kWh pack that is good for only a 10km distance, but with the right gearing could deliver consistently high speeds.
Braking is taken care of by twin 320mm discs at the front and a single 220mm disc at the rear combining with Brembo calipers. A chromoly trellis frame keeps everything secure and a WP suspension all round.
