Only 150 for Australia

Yamaha has released its new generation Vmax for sale locally, a few weeks after it became available in Europe.

The 200 horsepower V-four is being marketed as a limited edition machine, with 150 units earmarked for the local market.

Price for the 1679cc-powered machine has been set at a lofty $29,850 (plus ORC), for which the would-be owner receives a long string of ownership add-ons including custom book on the model.

Intriguingly, the factory has set a governed top speed of 220km/h for the machine, though this is done in a way which will not effect its acceleration.

No doubt this will see the rise of an aftermarket derestriction industry.

Here is how Yamaha describes the powerplant:
"Powering the new VMAX is an allnew 1679cc liquid-cooled 4-stroke DOHC 65 degree V4 engine which has been designed to offer an unforgettable acceleration experience created by higher levels of power, and an imposing design. Running with bore x stroke dimensions of 90.0 x 66.0mm (compared to 76.0 x 66.0mm for the previous model VMAX) and featuring a compression ratio of 11.3:1, this visually intimidating new powerplant develops 147.2 kW (200 bhp at 9000 rpm, together with a huge torque output of 166.8 Nm (17.0 kg-m) at 6500 rpm.

"The new VMAX benefits from this advanced technology with features such as YCC-I (Yamaha Chip Controlled Intake) and YCC-T (Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle) which are key factors in achieving the new engine's high levels of power. This new high-tech engine is the first Yamaha V4 to be equipped with a sophisticated new fuel injection system, which, together with the YCC-I and YCCT, ensures that the powerful 65-degree V4 engine is fully equipped to deliver previously unimaginable levels of standing-start and roll-on acceleration."

Dealers are taking $2000 deposits and the machines will be delivered from November this year.

This is possibly the most-anticipated new model launch for Yamaha in several years.

The Vmax has developed cult status since its launch in 1985 and this is the first major remake of the model.

In the USA, 2500 are being made available at US$17,990, according to Yamaha's web site.
