A Swiss team, which has drawn its inspiration from the movie The World’s Fastest Indian is to tackle speed week at the Bonneville Salt Flats this September with a unique machine powered by a Feuling W3-powered machine.
Claiming a modest 150 horses from the giant 2458cc engine, the bike will be entered in a non-streamlined class by Swiss Performance owner, Ruedi Steck. He’ll be accompanied by Markus Saegesser, who’ll be running a 230hp Harley-based 2048cc V-twin in a similar class.
The pair say the exploits of Kiwi rider Bert Munro, depicted in the film, is what got them interested.
Munro still holds a record he set in 1967 on a much-modified 1920s Indian -- 294km/h! He was 68 years old at the time.
The Feuling W3 engine is now very rare, as only a few were built (see pictured) before creator Jim Feuling passed away. The engine is based on Harley’s twin-cam Big Twin engine series.
