Rotax-powered bike a big leap forward

Buell's long-awaited liquid-cooled V-twin, called the 1125R, has been unveiled and the basic specs suggest it will be an absolute rocket.

The company says the Rotax-developed fuel-injected engine produces a healthy 146 horses from its high compression (12.3:1) design punting a bike that claims to weigh a mere 170 kilos dry.

Despite the high-output, the company claims the engine is not peaky and has a broad spread of power, up to its 10,500rpm redline.

Suspension is relatively conventional -- beefy USD forks up front and a monshock rear, all of which is fully-adjustable Showa kit.

Braking follows Buell practice, with a conventional rear disc and a massive rim-mounted front running an eight-piston caliper.

Typically for Buell, the bike is running steep steering geometry, with a mere 21-degree rake angle.

The machine is already for sale in the USA, and will be available locally in September.

Since it meets the new capacity regulations, will we eventually see it in world superbike competition?
